A process for producing a fluorinated secondary alcohol (6) from inexpensive materials. The process comprises reacting RRCHOCOR (R and R each is alkyl, etc.; and R is fluoroalkyl, etc.) with fluorine in a liquid phase to obtain RRCHOCOR (at least one of R and R is a monovalent fluorinated organic group and R and R may be bonded to each other to form a divalent organic group; and R is a monovalent fluorinated organic group) and subsequently subjecting it to transesterification with ROH (R is a monovalent organic group) to yield RRCHOH and/or ROCOR.
