A method of manufacturing a segment of an annular leaf seal, in which the ends of a plurality of angled leaves bear against a rotating shaft, comprises the steps of forming corrugations in a strip of metallic material 31, e.g. using star-shaped wheels 44, 46, feeding the corrugated strip 42 into a slot 49 in a guide block 50, pressing the strip into the slot using an angled ram (Fig. 5), mounting the pressed, corrugated strip in a carrier and finally cutting off folded edges of the corrugations to provide the individual leaves of the seal. |
