An insulation material 1 formed from a layer of fabric 2 bonded to a layer of foil 4. The fabric may be crochet knit narrow fabric 2, knit from volumised glass/mineral fibres retained by a sacrificial catch thread 3. The catch thread breaks down in use to release the glass/mineral fibres. The fabric may be bonded to the foil by an adhesive, and the foil may be reinforced with a glass fibre scrim. In use the material is wrapped around a body to be insulated such as an internal combustion engine exhaust pipe. A waterproofing coating may then be applied, such as a layer of extruded self amalgamating silicone. |
