<p>2-Adamantanols in position 2 being further substituted with alkyl containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms, cyclohexyl, or 1-(4-methoxybutyl) are prepared in such a manner that a solution of 1.1 to 1.4 mole of alkyl bromide having 2 to 6 carbon atoms in alkyl, or cyclohexyl bromide, or 4-methoxybutyl chloride and 1 mole of 2-adamantanone are successively added to a mixed suspension of 2.2 to 2.7 molar amount of lithium in an ether solvent such as diethyl ether, or tetrahydrofuran, or 1,2-dimethoxyethane at a temperature ranging from 0 to 15 degC within 2 to 8 hours and preferably in a medium used for the preparation of the lithium suspension, whereupon the reaction mixture is decomposed by the addition of ethanol-water mixture, acidified with hydrochloric acid and the product is then isolated from the organic phase after its separation by already known method.</p> |
