PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain excellent heat resistance to be used even for a misty liquid portion-containing gas having a high temperature of >=100 deg.C and to improve the separation efficiency of the liquid portion from the misty liquid portion- containing gas in a liquid separation element provided in an oil separator of an oil cooled compressor and used also as an oil separation element, or the like, for separating misty oil portion in a compressed gas. SOLUTION: The liquid separation element 20 is provided in an oil separator for separating the liquid portion from the liquid portion-containing gas, which is a gas accompanied with the liquid portion and fed from the outside, and sending out the gas, from which the liquid portion is separated, to the outside and is provided with a cylindrical coagulating layer for collecting the liquid portion contained in the liquid portion-containing gas and forming liquid drops having large particle diameters and a sponge part 26 for capturing the liquid drops formed in the coagulating layer 24 and forming a wet band part formed by infiltrating the liquid portion into the lower part, and the sponge layer 26 is made of a melamine resin foamed body.
