PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying a diaryl carbonate obtained by performing a decarbonylation reaction of a diaryl oxalate, containing low impurity content, especially capable of reducing the discoloration of the product carbonate and a polycarbonate obtained from the product. SOLUTION: This method for purifying the diaryl carbonate is constituted by evaporation-treating the decarbonylation reaction liquid obtained in the production of diaryl carbonate by the decarbonylation of the diaryl oxalate for separating and recovering the volatile component containing the diaryl carbonate, distilling the volatile component for removing a low boiling substance and a high boiling substance successively to obtain a crude fraction consisting of a high concentration diaryl carbonate, almost not containing diaryl oxalate and containing a very small amount of a furan-based impurity, and then removing the furan-based impurity from the crude fraction.
