PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress or improve reduction of performance of a tire occasioned by reduction of weight by preventing breakage of a metal-wire in a belt layer by the use of a metal monofilament as a belt for reinforcement. SOLUTION: This pneumatic radial tire comprises a carcass layer 2 of radial structure extending between bead part 1; a tread 6 disposed radially externally of a tire in the crown region of the carcass layer; and at least two belt plies (3 and 4) formed of a rubber-covered metal-wire situated at a tread and the crown region of the carcass layer. The belt layer is formed of a belt ply embedded in a covering rubber where metal monofilaments are approximately separated in the direction of width, and at least one reinforcing layer 5 consisting of rubber or mainly of rubber is situated between the belt layer and the thread.
