PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-base ink composition which exhibits good water resistance and marker resistance and high density of a print and which has excellent delivery characteristics when used as a water-base ink for ink jet recording. SOLUTION: This ink composition contains an aqueous medium, particles of a water-insoluble polymer having e.g. a dye incorporated therein and/or a self-dispersible pigment, and a compound selected from compounds of formulas (I), (II) and (III) [wherein R1, R2, R4, R6 and R7 are each H, a CnH2n+1 or a CnH2nO(CH2CHYO)mH; R3 and R5 are each a hetero atom, a CnH2n or hydrocarbon group; (n) is 1 to 6; (m) is 0 to 20; (a), (e) and (i) are each 0 to 1; (b), (f) and (j) and each 0 to 30; (c), (g) and (k) are each 1 to 5; (d) and (h) are each 0 to 1; R8 is a (CH2CHYO)k; X is H, hydroxyl, a CH2O(CH2CHYO)kH, an O(CH2 CHYO)kH or an OM (wherein M is an alkali metal); (p) is 2 to 7; R9 is H or CqH2q+1; (r) and (u) are each 0 to 30; provided that the number of the group CH2CHYO is 1 to 100]. |
