PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new carbazole derivative capable of providing a carbazole-based polymer having excellent hole-transporting ability and durability, and suitable as a hole-transporting material, and further to provide the carbazole-based polymer suitable as the hole-transporting material, and the hole-transporting material having the excellent hole-transporting ability and the durability. SOLUTION: This carbazole derivative is represented by formula (1), and the carbazole-based polymer is represented by formula (2) (in the formulas (1) and (2), R1 to R5 are each hydrogen, an alkyl group, a phenyl group or the like; and X is a single bond, a phenylene group or the like). The hole- transporting material includes the carbazole-based polymer.
