PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a industrially preferably method for manufacturing high quality aromatic polycarbonates having a good color and showing less discolora tion and reduction of molecular weight under an elevated temperature of 380 deg.C or higher, when manufacturing aromatic polycarbonates by a melt polycondensastion process. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing aromatic polycarbonates comprises polymerizing aromatic dihydroxy compounds and diarylcarbonates in a molten state. The diarylcarbonates containing (a) 200 wt.ppm or less of water, (b) 1 wt.ppm or less of zink, and (c) 1 wt.ppm or less of o,p-bis(phenoxycarboxyl)biphenyl are used.
