PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sludge solidifying material which rapidly and easily solidifies highly moist sludge by using a water absorptive material having biodegradability. SOLUTION: This sludge solidifying material contains >=50 mass% water absorbing material which consists of galactomannan, boron ions and tervalant or higher polyvalent metal ions exclusive of the boron ions, is capable of absorbing an aqueous solution of bivalent or lower valent cation at >=40 times its own weight and is >=2×10-5 N/mm2 in the gel strength after the water absorption.
