PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a printed book gripping device simple in structure and low in cost which is capable of gripping a printed book without noise and breakage of the printed book, smoothly releasing the printed book without bending and misregistration and carrying out gathering work favourably. SOLUTION: This printed book gripping device is formed of a rotary 6 to rotate by a rotary rotation axis 5, grippers 10, 11 for holding of the printed book 1 fixed on gripper shafts 7, 8 axially supported on this rotary free to revolve, cam followers 14, 15 projected to side surfaces of these grippers 10, 11, a cam 17 to control work of the grippers 10, 11 by fitting these cam followers 14, 15 in a cam groove 18 and click bases 12, 13 axially supported on the gripper shafts 7, 8 free to revolve and to energize holding parts 23, 24 for holding of the printed book 1 provided on a head end part in a direction of the grippers 10, 11 by a tensile spring 27.
