COMBINATION CLOSURE AND SYRINGE

A closure (10) is provided for a syringe (12) of the type having a housing with a substantially tubular and cylindrical neck (14) with a through bore (16) for dispensing the syringe contents. The closure includes an elongated probe (20) having a free end (22) and a cross-sectional area substantially t he same as the syringe through bore, a first tubular and cylindrical sealing ri ng (24) having an inner diameter substantially the same as the outer diameter o f the syringe neck, a second tubular and cylindrical sealing ring (28) positioned concentrically around the first sealing ring, and a base plate (3 6) perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the probe and sealing rings for vertical storage of the assembly. In the closed position, the probe and firs t sealing ring sealingly engage the internal and external surfaces of the syringe neck, while the free ends of the sealing rings sealingly engage the outer surface of the syringe housing.
