PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile mail device where communication speed or average communication speed is raised by setting an optimum transmission level. SOLUTION: In addition to a function for facsimile communication through an ordinary public circuit a facsimile mail device has, a function for exchange of electronic mail by comprising an interface for dial-up connection through the ordinary public circuit. Here, there are provided a storage means 23 where a plurality of transmission level set values for dial-up as well as the connection speeds corresponding to the set values are stored, a gain setting means (CPU 21) for setting the transmission level which is the fastest connection speed, and a gain selecting means 4 (figure 4) which selects the transmission level set by the gain setting means.
