PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information providing system which can easily retrieve mail address information of electronic mail and URL information and an information providing method using the system. SOLUTION: An information requester inputs, for example, an address, a name, an age, the distinction of sex, the type of an automobile, etc., as retrieval conditions. When the information requester is a subscriber of a provider 1, a server 3 accesses a database 2 to retrieve a subscriber meeting the retrieval conditions. Information on the subscriber meeting the retrieval conditions is displayed on a screen. Here, this information does not includes the subscriber when the subscriber refuse to be made open to the public. Once the information requester makes a choice, the server 3 sends to the selected subscriber a confirmation message showing that the information requester makes a request for retrieval and whether or not the mail address information may be provided. When the selected subscriber allows the address information to be provided in response to the confirmation message, the server 3 provides the mail address information for the information requester.
