PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing recording media which is capable of manufacturing the recording media, having characteristics corresponding to trend toward higher density at a high yield and with good productivity, and to provide a recording medium manufacturing apparatus. SOLUTION: The inside of a hermetically sealed structure, formed by fitting a moving side metal mold 6 and a stationary side metal mold 8 to each other, is maintained under a reduced pressure atmosphere which will not generate air bubbles. The fine rugged patterns of a stamper 1 are transferred to a substrate 2 therein. There will no longer be occurrence of defects in the recording surface on recording layer of the substrate 2, and the manufacture of the large- capacity and high-density recording media at the high yield is made possible. Even more, the stamper 1 is pressed in the direction perpendicular with respect to the recording surface of the substrate 2, by which the exertion of stress moving in the transverse direction of the stamper 1 is averted, and therefore the shape reproducibility of the rugged patterns transferred to the recording surface becomes very much improved. |
