PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oscillator and a method of controlling the same which can surely oscillate, even when it is driven with a low drive power. SOLUTION: The oscillator 10 can be started surely to oscillate, by turning on and off a switch 31 at half-period intervals of a Schmitt trigger oscillator 32 to repeat starting and stopping a piezoelectric oscillator circuit 2 until it oscillates normally, thus providing many chances for the transient response with the growth of the oscillation amplitude of the piezoelectric oscillator circuit 2.
