PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small pulse train generator which is capable of generating an easily regulated high-frequency repetitive pulse train capable of making distributed compensation for pulses, and changing oscillation wavelength. SOLUTION: A first reflector 2a, a semiconductor optical amplifier 1, and a second reflector 2b are successively arranged at a certain interval on a board 3, the optical reflectance of the first reflector 2a is set nearly at 100%, and a film whose reflectance is below 100% to enable light rays to pass partially through is made to serve as the second reflector 2b. The semiconductor optical amplifier 1 emits light rays toward the reflectors 2a and 2b. A saturable absorbing medium 4 is provided between the second reflector 2b and the semiconductor optical amplifier 1 so as to be located on the optical path of light emitted from the semiconductor optical amplifier 1, the emitted light is reflected between the first reflector 2a and the second reflector 2b so as to reciprocate through the semiconductor optical amplifier 1 and the saturable absorbing medium 4 to generate an optical pulse train, and the optical pulse train is outputted from a light output part provided to the light transmission side of the second reflector 2b.
