PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for heat treatment to obtain a nonmagnetic support body or a magnetic recording medium superior in the form without defects such as elongation or wrinkles, and to provide a method and a device for manufacture of a nonmagnetic support body or a magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: In the method and device for the heat treatment of a nonmagnetic support body or a magnetic recording medium, when the objective body 1 to be treated consisting of a nonmagnetic support body or a magnetic recording medium is heat treated by heating rolls A1, A2, A3, the body to be treated is separated from the heating rolls when the heat treatment is not carried out, and the body is brought into contact with the heating rolls when the heat treatment is carried out. Or in the method and device for the heat treatment and in the method and device for the manufacture of the nonmagnetic supporting body or magnetic recording medium, when the objective body 1 to be treated, consisting of a nonmagnetic support body or magnetic recording medium, is heat treated through irradiation of IR rays A4, A5, A6, the temperature of the objective body is measured by using a thermocouple 12', and the heat quantity of the IR rays is controlled by a control part 19', based on the temperature information.
