PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that conventionally anisotropy (modulation) in the coercive force caused by a single-crystal substrate and to provide a magnetic recording medium which has every little anisotropy of the coercive force in the medium plane and which is smooth and suitable for high recording density. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium is manufactured by successively laminating a seed film of Ta or Si, a seed film having the bcc(110) orientation plane of NiAl, a base film having the bcc(110) orientation plane of Cr, and a CoCr alloy magnetic film with the hcp(100) orientation plane inclined in the medium plane direction with three orientation planes at 120 deg. interval by each orientation in the medium plane on a single crystal substrate.
