PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that conventionally thin-film magnetic head, the conditions for making NiP non-magnetic are indefinite, when a metal material such as NiP is used for a gap layer. SOLUTION: The gap layer 22 can be set in a non-magnetic state, by using NiP for the purpose of forming the gap layer 22 and specifying P content in NiP measured by high frequency plasma emission spectrometry to be >=11 mass% and <=14 mass%.
