PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a neural network easily explainable to not only an engineer accustomed to a nonlinear system but also a general engineer and intuitively graspable by the general engineer by matching an analytic result with the actual input/output characteristics of the neural network. SOLUTION: In this neural network of a hierarchical structure having a plurality of input layer elements and a plurality of intermediate layer elements, part of the input layer elements has a loosely coupled portion coupled with the intermediate layer elements. Elements having linear functional outputs are used for the output layer elements, and elements having nonlinear functional outputs or linear functional outputs are used for the intermediate layer elements.
