PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp socket and luminaire capable of setting a lamp more adjacently to a mounting surface to thin the luminaire. SOLUTION: This lamp socket comprises a first pair of receiving fixtures 2a and 2b connected to a first pair of conductive plates 9a and 9b arranged adjacently to the mounting surface 5 within a socket body 1, and a second pair of receiving fixtures 3a and 3b connected to a second pair of conductive plates 10a and 10b arranged apart from the mounting surface 5 to the first conductive plates. The second fixtures 3a and 3b have pin retaining parts 11 extended with inclination from the second conductive plates 10a and 10b and pin nipping pieces 12 formed by bending both side parts of the pin retaining parts 11 toward the mounting surface 5 side and extended forward over the pin retaining parts 11.
