PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid-crystal display device as well as a method for driving a liquid-crystal for reduced power consumption when a TFT liquid- crystal display panel is driven. SOLUTION: Related to a liquid-crystal display device 10, a common electrode provided to face each pixel electrode of a liquid-crystal display panel 9 is supplied with a common signal Vcom whose polarity inverts at every prescribed cycle by a common signal generating circuit 16. Each scanning line is supplied with a scan signal at a prescribed scan timing by a scan driver 7 while each scanning line is supplied with a display signal VD by a signal driver 18 at alternate polarity inversion at the timing of polarity inversion of the common signal Vcom. A central electric potential of the display signal VD supplied to the signal line is shifted in the invert polarity direction relative to a polarity inversion direction of the common signal at the timing of polarity inversion of the common signal, so that the amplitude of the common signal Vcom is suppressed to about a power source voltage for driving a logic circuit.
