PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for inputting identifying information with no fear of leakage to others, which can be loaded in a small space. SOLUTION: This device consists of a rotary encoder group 101 which generates an electrical signal while giving a user a 'click feel' at each unit rotation and inputs by a rotary operation arbitrary characters and numbers constituting a string of characters and numbers allotted in proportion to the number of rotations, a push button type switch group 102 which finalizes the characters and numbers input by the above dial means, a password conversion means 103 which converts electrical signals generated from the dial means based on a conversion table 104 and a password authentication means 105 which authenticates the characters and numbers converted by the password conversion means by ensuring that they are the characters and numbers constituting the characters and numbers of a password.
