PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an unnatural pixel value from being displayed when a stream only of shape values containing no pixel value is decoded. SOLUTION: A decoder Dec 1 decodes a video stream Str. When the video stream Str contains only the shape, an object nondisplay information Boly designates 'nondisplay'. Otherwise, the object nondisplay information Boly designates 'display'. When the object nondisplay information Boly designates 'nondisplay', a switch SW0 selects a shape value displaying no color from a shape value generator GEN 1, i.e., a shape value Aval where a relevant pixel is transparent and other pixels are displayed as they are at the time of synthesis.
