PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid replacement activating method for an open alkali battery having a negative electrode containing iron, allowing the increasing recovery of a discharge capacity with liquid replacing activation. SOLUTION: The liquid replacement activating method for the open alkali storage battery comprises performing liquid exchange if the open alkali battery having a negative electrode containing iron has lower capacity in the process of cycles, and then performing discharge at a potential level, where the iron is not dissolved, followed by overcharge.
