PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture reader which is hard to distort a read picture even when the surface of an original is tilted with respect to the platen glass. SOLUTION: The picture reader for the original by a photodetective part 16 while moving a light source 17 along the original inside a transmissive plate 12 for mounting the original 11 is provided with an offset detection part 20 for detecting an offset quantity D with respect to the transmissive plate of the original and a control part 1 for varying the moving quantity of the light source along the original based on the offset quantity.
