PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make automatically mountable the information recording surface of a recording medium toward a disk drive assembly without requiring a user to take the recording medium out of this device even when the recording medium has been mounted in an opposite direction. SOLUTION: This device has a turntable 12 which vertically houses the disk-shaped recording medium Dn, the disk drive assembly 14 which is arranged in its central part, mounts the recording medium Dn and records and/or reproduces information signals SIN, a disk transporting means 17 which transports the recording medium Dn between the disk drive assembly 14 and a turn table 12 and a controller 1. The controller 1 detects the presence or absence of housing of the recording medium Dn in the disk housing section 20, discriminates the information recording surface of the recording medium Dn taken out of the same and controls the recording medium Dn so as to mount the recording medium as it is at the disk drive assembly 14 or to invert the recording medium Dn and to mount the same again at the disk drive assembly based on the discriminated results.
