PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an OSD display size changeably automatically according to a screen size. SOLUTION: It is composed of an input signal source 24, a monitor 10 that displays a video signal from this input signal source, a scan converter 28 that converts to be displayable on a screen of the monitor, a character generating means 32 to display characters overlapped on the display screen based on the video signal and a control section 30 that are fed information from a key operating part. When a change instruction of a size of the display screen is performed from the key operating part, in the control part, a scan instruction signal to the monitor and a variable magnification instruction signal for a variable magnification to characters are generated and the generated variable magnification instruction signal is fed to the character generating means. By this, when the size of the display screen is changed, as the OSD display size is changed automatically, it makes easy to watch the OSD display and at the same time can realize the display without the sense of incongruity.
