The individual channel processing technique allows a single component to provide signal recovery. The wavelength division multiplexed, optical signal regenerator comprises a demultiplexer (19) for the input signal, producing N individual channels (21), and a multiplexer (23) for the N individual output optical signals, producing a single multiplexed output. Within each individual channel there is a saturable absorber (24) for the re-shaping of optical signals in each channel, and a delay line (25). The length of each delay line is chosen in order to introduce a total delay ( pi n) between the (n+1)th and the nth channel, to obtain a time shift ( pi n) between these same two channels. |
