PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip-type surge absorber capable of increasing the surge resistant quantity. SOLUTION: Arc discharge forming electrodes 10 and 11 are arranged in discharge electrode base end parts 3a and 4a, and since inside end parts of the electrodes 10 and 11 are exposed to an inside space 7 of a cover body 6, by having extended glow discharge extend even to the inside end parts of the electrodes 10 and 11, and arc discharge between the electrodes 10 and 11 is produced, and melting of a joining part of the outside end side of a discharge electrode and the cover body 6 by heat can be prevented, and the cover body 6 is not opened and breakdown can be prevented surely.
