PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system capable of distributing the contents data of music or the like in a rental style while preventing illegal utilization. SOLUTION: In a configuration for embedding information required for reproducing control in contents data to be distributed while using the technology of electronic watermark, a reproducing request is authenticated while using the embedded information and when the reproducing request is authenticated, processing is performed to reproduce the contents data of the reproducing request and to update the information embedded in these contents data corresponding to reproducing thereof. Thus, by embedding information such as number of times of utilization or validity required for the rental of contents data, the contents data of music or the like can be distributed in the rental style while preventing illegal utilization.
