Known headstocks are relatively long since clamping chucks, the rotationally mounted spindle and the clamping cylinder etc are situated axially behind each other. The invention provides for a shortening of the headstock by accommodating the clamping cylinder inside the spindle, whose inner diameter is increased. The clamping cylinder and chuck are also fixed to each other directly and preassembled and performance-tested as a module. This configuration is particularly advantageous for an integrated spindle motor since the increased outer diameter of the spindle (the winding diameter) has a positive effect on the torque of an integrated motor of this type.
