PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display is provided to change the structure of a pixel electrode so as to compensate for a reduction in optical transmissivity of the pixel electrode. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes a pair of transparent substrates, a display medium of which optical characteristic is modulated in response to voltage applied thereto and which is filled between the pair of transparent substrates, and a pixel electrode(11) arranged on the inner surface of one of the pair of transparent substrates in matrix form. Each pixel electrode includes a plurality of split pixel electrodes. The liquid crystal display further includes a switching element electrically connected to each split pixel electrode, a data line(13) for applying a data signal voltage to each split pixel electrode through the switching element, and a gate line(12) for applying driving voltage for driving each switching element. Each of the pixel electrodes is formed on one of the transparent substrates by selective etching.
