The method and the system (100) of the present invention provide for uniquely identifying a real estate property. A universal identifier associated with a real estate property permits a user to request information related to the real estate property, submit the request to a host system (400) and receive a fufillment of the information request by the host system (400) and/or a data provider (300) linked to the host system (400). The fulfillment includes an identifier that is unique, and preferably permanently, associated with the real estate property. The universal identifier may be based on a base code and a series code or a base code and a country code.
