An adjustable damper element (1) is disclosed, which can be braced against the bonnet or the boot lid of a car in a rattle-free manner. The tolerances during production of the chassis make it necessary to adjust the damping element (1). According to the invention, the above is embodied such that the adjustment occurs automatically on the first closure of the bonnet or boot. The damping element (1) thus comprises four functional pieces, namely a stop element (2), a housing (3), a clamp element (4) and a fixing element (5). Whilst the fixing element (5) is not completely screwed into the housing (3), there is a partial positive fit between the stop element (2) and the clamp element (4). The stop element (2) may thus be moved within the housing (3) in a ratchet for the purpose of adjustment. The desired adjustment is fixed by completely screwing in the fixing element (5) to the housing (3), whereby a positive fit between the stop element (2) and the clamp element (4) is formed.
