The load switch has a housing (2) containing a breaker (11) for disconnecting a load from the current source and a current detector (4) which monitors the load current, coupled to a digital electronic control (8), e.g. a microprocessor, for generating control, release and information signals. The load switch has an interface (14b) for cordless communication with a number of external devices and a further interface (14a) for connection to a field bus system, with different operating programs for the load switch selected and activated via a transmitter providing a corresponding number of control signals.
