PROCESS FOR SUPER DEEP DESULFURIZATION OF LIGHT OIL FRACTION

A process for super deep desulfurization of a light oil fraction, which comprises a step of subjecting a light oil fraction to hydrodesulfurization by contacting the fraction with a first catalyst together with hydrogen, so as for the fraction to have a sulfur content of 100 to 5000 ppm and a benzothiophene content of 10 ppm or less in sulfur terms and a subsequent step of contacting the resultant fraction with a second catalyst together with hydrogen, wherein the first catalyst comprises a carrier comprising an inorganic porous oxide containing aluminum and, carried thereon, molybdenum and cobalt as a metal component having hydrogenation activity, and the second catalyst comprises a carrier comprising an inorganic porous oxide containing aluminum and, carried thereon, molybdenum and nickel as a metal component having hydrogenation activity. The process allows the achievement of a super deep desulfurization into a fraction having a sulfur content of 50 ppm or less, in particular, 20 ppm or less.
