The fuel storage system for a motor vehicle comprises a tank (12) and an inner flexible blister (18) capable of accommodating fuel. The space (36) between the blister and the tank inner wall is connected to an air pump (40) and to a magnetic relief valve (42) which jointly allow the pressure in this space to be varied. The system further includes control unit (46) which governs the operation of the air pump and the relief valve, and is electrically connected to pressure and air temperature sensors. Also claimed is a method for preventing fuel vapor formation in such a fuel storage system.
