A polyamide-layer silicate composite (I) contains a homogeneously distributed, delaminated organic modified synthetic three layer silicate (II) having a cation exchange capacity of less than 50 meq/100 g. Independent claims are included for the following: (i) a process for the polymerization of polyamide monomers in the presence of silicate (II) having a cation exchange capacity of less than 50 mg/10 g; and (ii) molded articles, profiles, film, laminated film, hollow bodies and profiles prepared using the composite (I).
