A display device comprises a synchronisation circuit (16) receiving a composite synchronisation signal (28) extracted from a video signal and generating a vertical synchronisation signal (39).The synchronisation circuit (16) receives a second signal (29) controlling a deflection circuit (14) of the display device. Further, the synchronisation circuit (16) automatically selects between said first signal (28) and said second signal (29) as a base for generating the vertical synchronisation signal (39).
