A method and system are provided for a photocathode-based display system in which light emitted from an electroluminescent (EL) material (35) is focused into parallel light rays and directed towards specific portions of phosphor (70) in the output display portion of the system. The light is focused and directed prior to striking photocathode material. In one embodiment, the light is focused using a micro lens array (100), comprising a plurality of micro lenses, each micro lens having a focal length. The micro lens array is placed approximately one focal length away from the EL material and before the photocathode material. Thus, dispersed or divergent light is focused and directed to desired portions of phosphor to produce a higher quality display.
|
