摘要 <p>Thermally depositing a metal on a surface comprises forming and maintaining a high speed plasma-transferred electric arc on a wire between a cathode and the free end of a wire electrode; surrounding the plasma with gas streams of high speed and high flow which each converge on the section of the free end of the wire but directly avoiding hitting the wire to support the projection of the particles on the surface; and allowing a slow gas flow onto and close to the tip of the wire to counteract destabilizing dynamic particles along the wire. The energy of the plasma and the electric arc is sufficient to melt the free end of the wire and atomize the metal particles. Preferred Features: The deposition rate is 508-698.5 cm/minute. The high speed gas streams have a flow rate of 1.1327 m<3>/minute. The slow gas flow on the wire has a flow speed of 0.028-0.057 m<3>/minute.</p>
