<p>In the wood flake molding process and apparatus of the present, the punch (22) for forming holes (24) in the part (14) includes a tapered upper portion (32) to facilitate mold release, but a cylindrical lower portion (34) for forming a hole (24) of consistent dimensions in parts (14) of varying thicknesses. The tapered upper portion (32) is configured to extend sufficiently far into molded wood flake part (14) to facilitate withdrawal of the punch (22) from the hole (24) formed therein. The cylindrical lower portion (34) is sufficiently long that regardless of variations in part thickness, the bottom opening (46) in the hole in each part (14) formed will have the same radius, defined by the cylindrical lower portion (34).</p> |
