<p>Disclosed are methods and an animal model for modulating persistent pain in a subject, and for identifying novel agents capable of ameliorating persistent pain. The methods of the invention are based on the finding that enhanced activation of NMDA receptor function in the forebrain, in particular by increased expression of the NR2B subunit, is associated with an increase in long-term reaction to a persistent pain stimulus.</p> |
