The device secures a climbing rope (10) along a climbing route, at whose one end a climbing person (P) is hanging. The climbing rope turns around at least at the highest point of the climbing route, or above that position. The other end of the climbing rope engages with a holder arrangement (1) which includes a stationary and motor-driven rope pulley (6), and a transmitter or voice radio arrangement, by means of which the holder arrangement is remotely controlled.
