Traffic information apparatus with improved speech synthesis generator

The road traffic information system has a voice synthesis unit producing audio messages. The unit is supplied with codes, each representing a message element. A permanent memory has stored data from which the message element is formed in response to the incoming code. The message generator module locates the message information in the memory from the supplied codes. The permanent memory holds two forms of message elements: a phonetic transcription of the message elements and a pre- recorded sequence of message elements to form a complete message. A message controller provides access to the sequence to generate a message.
