In the production of 2-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)-anthraquinone (IHEAQ) by Diels-Alder addition of naphtho-1,4-quinone with myrcene (7-methyl-3-methylene-1,6-octadiene) and oxidation of the adduct (2-(4-methyl-3-pentenyl)-1,4,11,12-tetrahydroanthraquione) with a gas containing oxygen, oxidation is carried out in a mixture of (a)polar organic solvents in the presence of a strong (in)organic base.
