PURPOSE: A sensor material is provided to obtain a gas sensor having excellent sensitivity characteristics of sensing carbon monoxide, while reducing power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A sensor material contains 0.1 to 10 mole percent Rh, and remaining part I2O3. The I2O3 powder has a superior property as a sensor material, and Rh serves to improve sensitivity characteristics of the sensor with respect to the carbon monoxide. The I2O3 powder is dipped into RhCl3 solution and dried for approximately 24 hours at a temperature of 100 Deg.C such that 0.1 to 10 mole percent Rh is contained. The I2O3 powder containing Rh is calcined for approximately 30 minutes at a temperature of 600 Deg.C, and crushed.
